About the Baltimore Vocal Arts Foundation

Founded in June of 2010, the Baltimore Vocal Arts Foundation is quickly establishing a reputation for presenting unique and diverse vocal works performed by exciting upcoming artists at a variety of historic venues in collaboration with professional and non-professional musical groups. BVAF opened its first season with a production of Pauline Viardot Garcia's salon opera, "Cendrillon" or "Cinderella" at the Baltimore Theater Project, with a production that Baltimore Sun critic, Tim Smith described as a "unique vehicle" and having "a certain charm".

Subsequent productions have included the Halloween concert: "Night Songs, A Celebration of the Magic and Mystery of Evening" which presented art songs by Schubert, Chausson, Faure, Bachelet and Rachmaninoff, presented at historic  Old Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, and most recently "Love Between Acts - A Program of Operatic Inteermezzi featuring Gasparini/Bononcini's ''Mirena e Floro' and Pergolesi's 'La Serva Padrona''" at Baltimore Theater Project.   The final event of the 2010-2011 Season will be a Symposium on Women's Vocal Health and concert of works by female composers, April 9th and 10th at 3:00 p.m. at Chestnut Grove Presbyterian Church in Phoenix, Maryland.

Plans for the 2011-2012 Season include a concert of sacred works by Douglas Towsend and Daniel Crozier,  a double bill of Manuel Garcia's monologue opera, "El Poeta Calculista" and Brahm's "Liebeslieder Walzes".  BVAF hopes to be able to offer continued performances of Viardot's "Cendrillon" at schools and community centers in order to raise funds for vocal scholarships.
